In 1971 the Lions Club of Manly conceived the idea of doing something for the nurses in the Manly area. A committee of Lions & members of the nursing profession was formed in 1972.
The “Nurses Quest” was so successful that by 1977 some $40,000 in scholarships had been allocated.
At the Lions District Convention in 1978 the project was unanimously adopted.
In 1980 the “Quest” became known as the NSW/ACT Nurses Quest raising over $100,000.
A further name change was decided and since then the “Quest” is known as the Lions NSW/ACT Nurses Scholarship Foundation.
The Board of Directors consisting of 9 Lions Club members, the District Governor and 6 members of the nursing profession, administers the Foundation.
The Board meets 4 times a year to transact business & consider scholarship applications.
An Annual General Meeting is held in April.
The members of the nursing profession are representatives of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation, NSW Nurses’& Midwives Association, the Australian College of Nursing and the Enrolled Nurses Professional Association.
